Terms of Service

Last updated July 21, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of SchoolScout, a service operated by SchoolScout LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company (“SchoolScout,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using SchoolScout, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. What SchoolScout is

SchoolScout helps students research colleges and build a personalized list of schools using publicly available data (such as U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard data) and generative AI. SchoolScout is a research and planning tool, not a substitute for guidance from a licensed school counselor, financial advisor, or immigration attorney. Cost estimates, admissions odds, and other figures are informational approximations, not guarantees or professional recommendations.

2. Accounts and eligibility

3. No professional or financial advice

Information provided by SchoolScout — including reports, chat responses, cost estimates, and scholarship suggestions — is generated with the help of AI models and automated data lookups. It may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate. Always verify costs, deadlines, financial aid figures, and admissions requirements directly with each institution before making decisions or submitting applications or payments. SchoolScout is not responsible for admissions outcomes, financial aid awards, or any decision you make based on information from the service.

4. Payments

Some features require payment or the use of token-based query credits, processed securely by Stripe. SchoolScout does not store your card details. Fees are described at the point of purchase. Unless required by law or stated otherwise at the time of purchase, payments are non-refundable once tokens or access have been granted to your account — but if something genuinely went wrong on our end, reach out and we’ll try to make it right.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

6. Disclaimer of warranties

SchoolScout is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information it provides is accurate or complete.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SchoolScout LLC and its owner(s) will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, or admissions or financial aid opportunities, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to SchoolScout is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

8. Termination

You may stop using SchoolScout and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe pose a security risk.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date on this page. Continued use of SchoolScout after a change means you accept the revised Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
