About

Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University of Virginia is a premier public flagship institution renowned for its rigorous academics, especially within the McIntire School of Commerce, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. The university's historic campus—referred to as "Grounds"—is a UNESCO World Heritage site centered around the iconic Rotunda and Jefferson's Academical Village. Campus culture is deeply rooted in student self-governance, highlighted by a historic, entirely student-run Honor System that fosters an atmosphere of mutual trust. Outside the classroom, Cavaliers experience a vibrant collegiate lifestyle defined by enduring campus traditions, active Greek life, and passionate support for Division I ACC athletics.

Wikipedia:The University of Virginia is a public research university located in Charlottesville City and Albemarle County in Virginia, United States. It was founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson and contains his Academical Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its original governing Board of Visitors included three U.S. presidents: Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe, the latter as sitting president of the United States at the time of its foundation. As its first two rectors, presidents Jefferson and Madison played key roles in the university's foundation, with Jefferson designing both the original courses of study and the university's original architecture. The original campus contains President Monroe's former residence and law office, today used as a residential college.
