About

Founded in 1959 by legendary cellist Pablo Casals, the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music in San Juan is the Caribbean’s premier music institution, best known for its exceptional programs in Classical Performance, Music Education, Composition, and Jazz and Caribbean Music. Located in a historic Spanish Neoclassical building in San Juan’s Miramar district, the school offers an intimate, performance-centric campus culture where students regularly showcase their talents in recitals, ensembles, and masterclasses. What truly sets the conservatory apart is its unique dual artistic focus, which seamlessly synthesizes rigorous Western classical training with the rich traditions of Latin American and Afro-Caribbean musical heritage.

Wikipedia:The Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music is a public conservatory in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It has hosted a number of international musicians as students as well as faculty, and has a longstanding relationship with the classical music movement in Puerto Rico, including the annual Casals Festival and the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra (PRSO). Following the success of the Casals Festival held in San Juan in 1957, state legislator Ernesto Ramos Antonini proposed several laws which would create the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra that same year, and the Conservatory of Music in June 1959.
