Alabama State University is a historic public HBCU in Montgomery best known for its pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement and its enduring legacy in educator preparation. The university offers strong academic programs in health sciences—including highly regarded physical and occupational therapy tracks—as well as forensic biochemistry, business, and education. Campus life is rich in tradition, anchored by spirited NCAA Division I athletics in the SWAC, active Greek organizations, and the world-famous Mighty Marching Hornets band. Uniquely founded in 1867 by nine former slaves known as the "Marion Nine," ASU provides students with a culturally profound experience paired with prime access to state government internships in Alabama's capital.
